This tank is the forerunner to the current M-1 .
It was a joint venture between the Germans and
ourselves and was to be the Main Battle Tank of
the 70's. It was revolutionary in many of its
features, such as the gunlauncher, the suspension,
and the driver in the turret. It was very expensive-
$1.2 million per copy. The current M-1 costs about
$750,000 per copy. Congress canceled the MBT-70
project in 1971 because of the cost.
